Located outside the West Entrance of the Oregon Capitol, Waite Fountain (formerly E. M. Waite Fountain) is the centerpiece of Willson Park.
In 1962 a rare Pacific hurricane known as the Columbus Day Storm, leveled the towering trees in Willson Park. After the cleanup and planned re-planting, the Waite Fountain was redesigned. This became an item of local controversy, but the new design prevailed.
A visit to the Oregon Capitol should include a stroll through Willson Park. ps- Get a sack of peanuts at the Capitol Gift Store to feed the Capitol Squirrels!
